Individual and team successes for Notts athletes at the English Schools Combined Events Championships in Exeter
Emily Race of Worksop Harriers won the English Schools Senior Girls Heptathlon title, down in Exeter. Poor weather conditions were not conducive to high scores with strong headwinds and rain on day two. However, Emily overcame both the competition and conditions to put in a winning performance, scoring 4910 points over the two days to win by 121 points. Emily showed real determination and an ability to cope with the pressure of competition, heading in to day two with just a 15 point lead, after what is typical her strongest day. However, Emily started day two showing she would not be relenting the lead without a fight with her three best long jumps of the season (with a best of 5.66m). A solid Javelin followed (32.55m in heavy rain) and a well-executed tactical 800m (2:31), too beat her two nearest competitors, which meant she captured a very well deserved title, and an excellent finish to a challenging season.
